Jacksonville, Oregon

I spent some time visiting my Nephew in the Jacksonville Oregon area along the Applegate River in Southern Oregon, not to far from Medford Oregon.  He is working for an organic bakery, Rise Up  in the Little Applegate Valley.

Jacksonville, a little Historic town right outside Applegate, has a lot to offer.  I found a darling bed and breakfast in Jacksonville  to stay at,  Jacksonville’s Magnolia Inn.   The Inn was a perfect place to rest my head for the night and If I had, had  more time I would  have enjoyed staying there longer.  The hospitality and delicious home baked treats at breakfast were a nice surprise.   My private bathroom and bedroom were carefully decorated with a vintage style.

Jacksonville also has  music festivals, hiking, wineries with wine tasting and so much more.   I spent my brief time hiking and driving to Applegate to see my Nephew along the way passing many wineries, cannabis and hemp seed fields!  My nephew had warm samples of  Rise Up’s  bread waiting for me.  If you see their bread in the store buy it, you wont be disappointed.

Jacksonville was once a gold mining town during the gold rush in 1851 then grew into agricultural and economic hub.  Later Medford took over as a city of interest and  in 1962 Jacksonville became a  National Historic Landmark .

Hiking in Jacksonville

My hiking was through Britt  Woods to Jackson Forks,  with 20 miles of trails all within walking distance from The Magnolia Inn.   Then there is Forest Park  and Woodland Hills with 1100 acres of trails.    I was wowed by the trees and  the wildlife.  Lot’s of deers and squirrels.

Some Wineries in the area:

DANCIN Vineyards   Applegate Wine Trail,    South Stage Cellars,  Bear Creek Boutique Wineries, Valley View Winery, Quady North Tasting Room, Cricket Hill Winery,  Wild Wines
